Basic Rules & Guidelines
- No harassment. This is a forum for like-minded people to have fun playing a game. Everybody should at least be treated with respect, and there is no reason to yell, scream, insult, bait, or troll another member (whether they are staff or not). If you feel that you have been mistreated by another member on site, please let somebody on staff know and they will work to resolve the issue fairly.
- No god-modding. Follow the battle and posting rules that have been established on site, and do not deviate from what you are allowed to do. For example, do not act as if every attack misses you or control what other characters would do. Do not control every detail of the roleplay, especially to the point where it is unrealistic or goes against the rules of the site.
- Profile avatars may only be up to 130 x 200 pixels.
- No images may be posted on the forum that exceed 450 x 450 pixels.
- You must put how many experience points (EXP) your character has in your profile. Go to Edit Profile and it will be at the bottom of the Personal tab. Please update as you gain experience points.
- No content or roleplay allowed over a PG-13 rating. It will be removed. This is per Proboards guidelines and terms of service to be a member on this site.
- No politics on site or in the chat box. Its okay to have small discussions about current events, but getting into debates or deep conversations about politics is not allowed.
- You may only have one character per account. You may have as many accounts as you like. You must notify staff of every account that you own, and each character must build up their experience points individually.
- We do not have canon characters from Naruto or Boruto on the site. It is okay to use faceclaims from the show, but please do not make exact replicas of canon characters from Naruto or Boruto. They will be denied. Players can, however, roleplay as canon characters in the Dream Worlds board.
- You can create hashtags by using the code [*#] before any word (note: you'll need to take out the asterisk).
- You can protect your ryo at the Vault / Bank, and collect interest everyday, by clicking the little piggy bank in the lower, left corner of the forum.
- Players may be in up to five threads at a time. Threads may be Private (P) or Open (O). Anyone is allowed to enter an Open thread, only people who are invited can enter a Private thread. Threads may be death-enabled (DE) or Non Death-Enabled (NDE). If a thread is not specified, then it is automatically death-enabled.
- During a war, enemy ninja may be able to enter private/closed threads and attack other shinobi.
- The ratio of In-Character (IC) time to Out-of-Character (OOC) time is 2:1. So all real amounts of time should be multiplied by two to get the IC amount of time. For example, six months OOC would be a year IC. A year OOC would be two years IC, and so on...
- Unless otherwise noted in a technique, all stat and skill checks are performed using 1d20 + skill or stat modifiers.
- Character transfers from other Naruto roleplay forums are allowed, however, are subject to rejection at any time by an Administrator or Head Moderator. If you want to transfer a character's training points (or similar) from another forum, then you must have access to the old account. You must use the same email from your old account on the Ninja War Roleplay. You must make a post with your old account somewhere on the old forum with the passphrase: "test23764" Then you must send a personal message (PM) to an Admin or Head Moderator with the link to your old character, a link to the passphrase, your email, and the amount of training points (or similar) that you'd like to transfer. If anyone is discovered to be cheating this system, it will result in an immediate perma-ban. Staff will approve or deny the transfer.
Leveling Up
- Every character starts at Level 1.
- Characters level up by roleplaying or achieving objectives. Characters will recieve experience points (EXP) from staff members which allow a character to level up. Characters can recieve experience points for any in-character post (see minor restrictions below).
- Characters may recieve up to 10 experience points per post, depending on how good the post is. Normally a post of three paragraphs is sufficient to recieve 10 experience points, depending on the preferences of the staff member and the quality of the writing.
- Players cannot gain experience points from posting in the Dream Worlds or Shopping District.
- A staff member cannot grade more than five posts or give out more than 50 EXP at a time.
- Players may specify a maximum amount of EXP they want so that they don't receive odd numbers. Example, a player can put [?? / 35] in their post which means they only want to gain up to 35 EXP.
- If a character leaves / exits a thread before they get a grade from staff, then they won't get any EXP! Always make sure to get staff to check first.
- If a character trains with a person who already knows a techniques, then it is easier for them to also learn the technique. If a character trains wtih another character in this way, then they'll get x2 experience points to learn that specific technique (but can never go over the 10 point max). So in other words, you could write a post that is normally worth 5 EXP and get 10 EXP instead.
- Experience points may be spent on techniques at anytime. E-rank techniques are worth 5 EXP, D-rank techniques are worth 10 EXP, C-rank techniques are worth 20 EXP, B-rank techniques are worth 50 EXP, A-rank techniques are worth 100 EXP, and S-rank techniques are worth 150 EXP unless otherwise noted.
- A character can't spend EXP on B-ranked techniques until Level 3. A character can't spend EXP on A-ranked techniques until Level 5. A character can't spend EXP on S-ranked techniques until Level 7.
- At each level a character recieves the following rewards: +2 trait points (TP), +10 stat points (STP), and +2 class points (CP)
- Trait points (TP) can be spent on opening up new ranks in a trait. See the Trait Index for more details.
- Stat points (STP) can be added to a character's stat pool. See Creating Characters for more details.
- Class points (CP) can't be spent on anything, but are used as a numerical value of a character's skill and complexity. Class points indicate how many class slots a character has.
- The chart for character levels is shown below:
Level 1 100 EXP Level 2 250 EXP Level 3 500 EXP Level 4 1000 EXP Level 5 1500 EXP Level 6 2500 EXP Level 7 3500 EXP Level 8 5500 EXP Level 9 7500 EXP Level 10 10000 EXP
Traveling
- In order to travel from one country to another, a character must post in a travel thread.
- There is no set rule for how much one has to write in order to travel to another country. However, generally speaking, if a country is beside another country then it would be considered 1 paragraph to travel there. So if you were traveling two countries away, it would take roughly 2 paragraphs to get there.
- Moving across water is not as difficult so a character may travel across large bodies of water in a single paragraph. However, every time a character enters a new body of water they will need to write a new paragraph. For example, if a character traveled through two oceans then they'd need to write 2 paragraphs.
- Whether or not a traveling post is long enough is up to the staff member. They can either approve the post or request that the player write more in order to travel to the new location.
Battling
- All players must state their items in the first post, including their clothing.
- During combat, a single round of posts (all characters post once) lasts six seconds.
- The number of movements a character can make per round is based on their Speed stat (see Character Template).
- Any major action is considered a movement, such as using a jutsu or weapon. Drawing or sheathing a weapon or item also takes a movement.
- You may only describe what actions and attacks your character makes. You can't describe what your opponent does. However, you can describe hypothetical situations in case your opponent takes an action.
- If a character's health points reach 0, then they will fall unconscious. If a character's hp drops below 0, then they will die. If any of a character's stats (stamina, speed, etc.) drop to 0, then they will fall unconscious / be able to move or act. If any of a character's stats drop below 0, then they will die.
- Unarmed strikes deal 1 hp of damage for ever 2 points in stamina.
- A character can fight with a weapon in both hands if they have a stamina stat of 14 or higher. Doing so, however, requires that both weapons be capable of being used with one hand -- and that the user sacrifice half their movements per round.
- If a situation would require a character to hold their breath, then they may do so for a number of rounds equal to 3 + 1 for every 5 points in Stamina. After this they will pass out. If the character is unable to breathe for another 2 rounds then they will die.
- Jutsu deal a certain amount of damage based on their rank. Unless otherwise stated, techniques deal the following damage:
D-rank 10 hp C-rank 20 hp B-rank 40 hp A-rank 60 hp S-rank 80 hp - Ninjutsu and genjutsu require a certain amount of handseals to use. Characters may only cast a limited number of handseals per round equal to 5 for every 2 points in the Chakra stat.
D-rank jutsu require 10 handseals to cast.
C-rank jutsu require 20 handseals to cast.
B-rank jutsu require 35 handseals to cast.
A-rank jutsu require 50 handseals to cast.
S-rank jutsu require 70 handseals to cast. - Handseals for ninjutsu and genjutsu require a certain amount of time to complete. In order to determine how long it takes to form a set of handseals, take the total amount of handseals being performed and divide it by the character's speed stat. This will give you the "handseal speed" at with which the technique can be performed in seconds. For example, a character with a speed stat of 20 is performing a B-ranked technique. It will take them 1.75 seconds to complete the technique, because you divide the handseals of the B-ranked technique (35) by the character's speed stat (20) to get 1.75.
- Due to the elemental nature of releases, some techniques are "super effective" or "not-very-effective" against other elements. Fire is super effective against wind, wind is super effective against lightning, lightning is super effective against earth, earth is super effective against water, and water is super effective against fire. Go in reverse to determine what is not-very-effective. If a technique is super effective, then it deals double its normal damage to a defense or technique made of its opposing element. If a technique is not-very-effective, then it deals half its normal damage to a defense or technique made of its opposing element.
- There are three, different parts of a genjutsu: the framework, the trigger, and the enhancements. A character will need to weave the handseals, and provide the chakra, for all three parts in order to cast a genjutsu. Of course, a character can never exceed their maximum number of handseals per round. All three parts (the entire genjutsu being cast) only takes a single movement to perform.
- Unless otherwise noted, a genjutsu framework determines the jutsu's rank and duration. A genjutsu trigger determines the range and amount of possible targets. The enhancements determine the genjutsu's effects and damage.
- If a character is taking damage from an attack and wants to use handseals (or if they take damage while forming handseals), then they'll have to make a concentration check against the opponent to see if they are successful. This is because ninjutsu takes a certain amount of concentration to use. Both sides will roll 1d100 and add their Will stat. If the defending player gets a higher roll, then they will be able to form their handseals even in the midst of combat.
- Since there is no specific rules on how much physical energy a character must sacrifice to use taijutsu, there is no specific rules on how much chakra a character must sacrifice to use ninjutsu and genjutsu. However, be realistic. A higher Stamina stat will result in a character having more physical energy, and a higher Chakra stat will result in a character having more chakra. A character with a 25 in Chakra can obviously use more ninjutsu than a character with a 10 in Chakra. A staff member can decide that a character has run out of physical energy or chakra if they feel like too much has been used.
- Bonuses from different techniques do stack, so long as they are not part of the same system or class. If two techniques are from the same class, however, then the bonuses do not stack and the character takes the highest of the two.
Missions, Events, and Campaigns
- Genin can take D and C-ranked missions, chuunin can take up to B-ranked missions, and jonin can take any mission. Please see the Mission Template and Mission Rules for more information.
- If a genin or chuunin wish to complete a higher ranked mission, then they may do so as long as they are with at least one character who is of the necessary rank (example: two genin and a chuunin could go on a B-ranked mission).
- A "mission" is an objective assigned by a character's hidden village. These can range from non-threatening to very dangerous.
- A "campaign" is an event or quest that is run by a Gamemaster, Kage, or staff member for other players.
- An "event" is a large-scale campaign, which usually involves multiple villages if not the entire site, which players can enter in-character to unlock rare prizes and rewards. Staff may also release important events that have to do with major site plots and lore.
- A "quest" is usually taken by one or two people at a time. The players will work with a Gamemaster or staff to achieve a specific goal such as unlocking a certain jutsu or skill. Quests can either be requested by players or discovered randomly throughout the world.
- A "point-of-interest" is a permanet thread, in a land or village, where ninja can go to simply roleplay or take on a quest.
- Only Kage and Admin can create missions.
- Gamemasters, Moderators, Head Moderators, and Admins can create events and run personal quests.
- Only Admins can create random quests and points-of-interests.
- An event thread title will look like this.
- A personal quest thread title will look like this.
- A point-of-interest thread title will look like this.
- Players can find special items from quests and events. These items are displayed in the player's profile, under "Player's Inventory."
