"All Hōzuki have blue hair and blue eyes, part of a deviation in their chakra after becoming a part of the clan, and are able to shift their bodies into water. Usually they will also have at least one sharp, pointed tooth poking out of their mouth like a shark. Because their bodies are made of water, Hōzuki can often shift and displace their muscle mass -- meaning that they can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Usually when they are well hydrated, a Hōzuki appears to be bigger in size. Hōzuki have a love for water and hold several holidays a year to honor rivers, lakes, and oceans. Hōzuki must drink water often to keep themselves from drying out.
"The Hōzuki were once a powerful clan in the Land of Water, producing at least one Mizukage and various swordsman whose names were known across the world. However after several of their clansman became criminals, including hitmen and sellswords, the clan began to fall into ruin. They never served in the government again, and many of the Hōzuki died in needless fights until only a few remained. One of them, a boy named Suigetsu, was used as a test subject by Lord Orochimaru in the Land of Sound before the Fourth Great Ninja War. However, after the war, Suigetsu teamed up with Orochimaru and helped start a new clan of Hōzuki in the Land of Sound.
"They were few at first, but over two centuries have grown into a robust, tribal community in Sound. Their community is found on the northern border of the nation, on the Ishi-ka Bay. Their dwellings consist of huts near the water that allow the Hōzuki to bathe themselves regularly in the ocean. There is a calm and tranquil atmosphere to the community. However, as war approaches the Land of Sound, many of the Hōzuki prepare for a fate that reminds them of their bloody past."[/ul]
